prepared a business impact analysis for a state
InfoSENTRY
then developed a disaster recovery plan for critical systems and networks based
on the business impact analysis. The disaster recovery plan included steps to
prevent disruptions to the state’s statewide voter registration system and
statewide voting system. In the event of disruptions, the plan specified
alternative processing operations and systems. It included emergency operations
and procedures for counties to assure that critical systems remain in operation
during peak election times. (With increased use of electronic voting systems
and the rapid growth in early voting, those “peak election times” have expanded
greatly.)
Moving
beyond recovery of critical systems, InfoSENTRY’s plan detailed processes and
operations to assure election continuity during crises and disasters. This
election continuity plan focused on alternative sites and procedures for (1) relocating
to these sites quickly and (2) re-establishing elections operations as quickly
and effectively as possible.
