Project Risk Assessment and Risk Management for
Implementation of a Statewide Information System
InfoSENTRY
prepared a risk assessment and risk management plan for a statewide implementation
of an Oracle®-based information system. The statewide voter registration system
connected all county election offices, the Secretary of State’s office, and
several state agencies. The project had a total budget of $12+ million.
InfoSENTRY
established a baseline project risk profile by interviewing project managers,
project staff, vendor staff, and other key stakeholders. The profile consisted
of over three dozen risk items, the estimated impact on the project if they
occurred, the probability of occurrence, existing risk mitigation factors, and
mitigation steps that InfoSENTRY recommended. InfoSENTRY used interviews and
documentation reviews to prepare a monthly risk assessment and risk management
report for the project management team. Each month’s report contained
recommendations for steps the project management team could take to manage and
control project risk elements. InfoSENTRY’s risk assessment and risk management
activities on the project continued over two years until the completion of the
project.
